The BEBE Myo Munchee

With the Aim to Support Healthy Oral Development from the Start

IIf you’ve been hearing about the Myo Munchee and wondering what all the interest is about, you’re not alone. Many parents are curious about this small chewing device and how it may support oral development in little ones.

The BEBE Myo Munchee is designed for infants and young toddlers to explore gentle chewing. It’s intended to encourage foundational oral habits such as comfortable lip closure, mouth breathing becoming nose breathing, and the tongue resting up in the roof of the mouth. These early patterns can play a role in how the face, jaw, and airway develop over time.

It’s important to note, however, that while the concept is based on long-standing principles of oral function and muscle use, the research specifically examining the BEBE Myo Munchee in infants is still emerging. At this stage, we cannot make firm claims about outcomes, and it may not be suitable or necessary for every child. Some babies may benefit from assessment by a qualified practitioner (such as a dentist, speech pathologist, or IBCLC) to determine whether it’s appropriate.

In short: it’s an interesting tool that aligns with what we already understand about oral function — but it’s still early days in the evidence, and individual guidance is recommended.

Why Early Oral Habits Matter

Oral function is about much more than teeth. It influences how your baby feeds, breathes, swallows, sleeps, and eventually even how they speak. In infancy, the muscles of the mouth and face are developing rapidly, and the patterns your baby uses now can shape how these functions develop over time.

Some babies experience challenges such as tongue or lip restrictions, ongoing mouth breathing, reduced oral tone, or fatigue during feeding. In these situations, working on oral function early can be part of a supportive, gentle approach to improving comfort and efficiency with feeding and breathing patterns.

The BEBE Myo Munchee is one tool that some families and practitioners use to help promote exploration of oral movement and muscle engagement. Rather than aiming to “fix” anything, it encourages natural, rhythmic chewing that may help your baby become more aware of:

  • Bringing the lips together comfortably

  • Resting the tongue up in the roof of the mouth

  • Breathing through the nose where possible

  • Coordinating sucking, swallowing, and breathing

Some parents also choose to use the Myo Munchee alongside feeding support, bodywork, or oral therapy.

It’s important to note that while the Myo Munchee is built on longstanding principles of oral muscle development, the research on its use in infants and toddlers is still growing. Outcomes vary, and it isn’t necessary or appropriate for every child. If you’re unsure, check in with a practitioner experienced in oral function (such as a paediatric dentist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, or IBCLC) to help determine whether it may be suitable.

Who is the BEBE Myo Munchee For?

The BEBE is generally designed for infants and toddlers from around 6 to 18 months who are beginning to explore chewing and developing their oral motor skills. It may be considered as part of a broader plan to support oral function, especially when guided by a practitioner familiar with your child’s needs.

Some situations where families may explore using the BEBE Myo Munchee include:

  • After a tongue or lip tie release, as part of a care plan recommended by your provider

  • When there have been ongoing feeding challenges (breast or bottle), or difficulty managing textures when starting solids

  • If a baby tends to keep their mouth open, dribble frequently, or appears to prefer mouth breathing

  • When there are signs of low oral tone or reduced interest in chewing

  • As a gentle way to encourage oral awareness and muscle engagement during everyday play

Every child develops differently, and not all babies will need or benefit from a Myo Munchee. If you’re unsure whether this tool is right for your baby, seeking guidance from a practitioner experienced in oral development (such as a paediatric dentist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, or IBCLC) can help ensure it’s used safely and appropriately.
